Eight years after he was celebrated as the “Great Discoverer,” received as an equal by Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand, and hailed in a papal bull, Christopher Columbus was arrested, locked in chains, and shipped to Spain for trial.
This historically grounded conclusion to Wilson’s Columbus trilogy follows the admiral’s downfall through the eyes of a Native narrator whose people were devastated in the wake of his arrival.
Wilson has made the novel as historically accurate as possible while using fictional characters and secondary events to bring the documented story to life.

My great friend, the late Tanilo Sandoval of Silvis, Illinois, got me started on this three-part adventure involving Columbus.
Tanilo helped me research my first book, Hero Street U.S.A., the award-winning nonfiction account of eight young Mexican American men from one street who died in combat in World War II and Korea.
Just when I thought I was done with the project, Tanilo challenged me to discover who the first Sandoval in the Western Hemisphere had been.
